MCG 5-29-86 is a 16th mag galaxy with a very peculiar appearance. Its main body looks like an inclined S0 galaxy with a pair of faint straight filaments along its minor axis. Optical spectra reveal no gaseous emission in the filaments or the galaxy. Radido observations with VLA reveal no radio material or central radio source. It is difficult therefore to interpret the filaments as jets due to internal activity. Two other possible interpretations are discussed: (1) an edge-on galaxy with a polar ring; (2) an edge on galaxy with a prolate bulge and a ring seen edge-on. No alternative is entirely satisfactory. Isophotometry of the object is discussed as it applies to these alternatives.
