Reference is made to studies using the similarity method of a spherical wave of explosion expanding outward and having a shock wave surface by Summers (1975), Rosenau and Frankenthal (1976), Singh and Srivastava (1981, 1982), and Singh (1983). Attention is given here to the self-similar solutions for the flows of nonideal gas behind a spherical shock wave which is propagating into a uniform atmosphere at rest permeated by a current-free azimuthal magnetic field. It is noted that this type of problem in a nonideal gas is important at high temperatures because the validity of the assumption of the ideal at such temperatures is not correct. The equation of state for nonideal gases, such as low-density gases, is taken from Landau and Lifshitz (1958) (as simplified by Anisimov and Spiner, 1972). Results are obtained for a blast wave and for the case of solar-flare-produced continuous fresh energy. Numerical solutions are obtained for various values of the parameter that characterizes the nonideal nature of the gas.
