Secular period changes of one hundred northern Cepheids are investigated with the help of O-C diagrams. With the classical Cepheids the rate of observed period changes is in good agreement with that determined from stellar evolution theory. The period noise cannot mask the evolutionary period changes especially in longer period Cepheids for which the occurrence of parabolic O-C graphs is unusually frequent.
