Discrepancies between F-type-star microturbulence velocities determined from the Fe II and Ti II lines and those determined from the Fe I lines (Boiarchuk and Liubimkov, 1981 and 1982) are investigated theoretically. Explanations based on oscillator-strength errors, damping errors, He overabundance, and deviations from LTE are considered and ruled out. Instead, the discrepancy (which increases with T(eff) and is thus much greater in the F0 class than in the F8 class) is attributed to an increased ionization of Fe I under non-LTE conditions. This model permits correction of the Fe I microturbulence velocities to agree with the Fe II/Ti II values.
