The files contain the full UN*X (up3d-1.1.1.tar.gz) and Windows (wp3d-1.1.1.tar.gz) versions of release 1.1.1 of P3D as it is found at the project web page http://p3d.sourceforge.net. Each file is downloaded and then extracted on the local machine. Installation instructions are found in the file README (specifically in p3d-1.1.1/README) for UN*X platforms (Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris). There are not any detailed installation instructions for Windows platforms yet, but the procedure is in general the same as for the other platforms. In order to use P3D without an IDL license follow the instructions in the README file on how to use the IDL Virtual Machine. P3D requires the program IDL to be installed; IDL can be downloaded from http://www.ittvis.com.
