NCAR-TIGCM simulations predict mesoscale cellular structures in the high latitude neutral density which could serve as a unifying framework for the analysis and interpretation of measurements in this region (e.g. Crowley et al., 1996; Schoendorf et al., 1996a). Here we compare these model predictions with ESRO 4 and DE 2 satellite data. In general, good agreement is found, supporting the observed ordering scheme. Alternate interpretations, however, cannot be ruled out
