We report on the detection of pulsed, broad-band, X-ray emission from the bright transient source RX J0117.6-7330. The pulse period of 22 seconds is detected by the ROSAT/PSPC instrument in a 1992 Sep 30 - Oct 2 observation and by the CGRO/BATSE instrument during the same epoch. Hard X-ray pulsations are detectable by BATSE for approximately 100 days surrounding the ROSAT observation (1992 Aug 28 - Dec 8). The total X-ray luminosity during the ROSAT observation is estimated to be 2.11 x 1037 ergs/s (d/60 kpc)2. The pulsed fraction in the ROSAT band is 11.3%. A total 20-70 keV luminosity of 7.8 x 1037 erg s-1 (d/60 kpc)2 f-1pulse where fpulse is the peak to peak ((mean-minimum)/mean) pulse fraction. Thus the total luminosity is greater than 1038 ergs/s. Frequency history determinations give a large average frequency derivative of 8.9 x 10-11 Hz/s. These results establish RX J0117.6-7330 as a transient accreting pulsar in a binary system with a Be star companion, rather than a black hole as previously suggested.
