The three-body system of Sun-Jupiter-Saturn is captured in a near (2:1) resonance when the dynamical friction due to the interplanetary medium is taken into account. The method of partial averaging near a resonance is used to analytically study the dynamics of this system. The dynamical evolution of the first order averaged system at resonance confirms the occurrence of the resonance lock for all initial relative position of Jupiter and Saturn and also the second order averaged system elucidates the variation of orbital elements of the two planets with time, while captured in resonance. Results of an extensive numerical investigation as well as analytical analysis of the system are presented.
