The Burst and Transient Source Experiemnt (BATSE) on the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory operated in space from April 1991 until the mission was terminated in June 2000. While the most notable observations were those of gamma-ray bursts, many other astrophysical and even geophysical observations were performed by the eight large, but relatively simple, uncollimated detectors of BATSE. An overview of the instrumentation, some highlights of observations and their interpretation will be presented.
