An accurate description of black hole coalescence requires simulations of Einstein equation in their full generality. The obtained models can be used to probe the theory in strong field regimes but also provide valuable astrophysical information. Our understanding and analysis of gravitational waves; gamma-ray bursts; black hole birth; (among others) will benefit from present and future models. We will discuss the current status of these simulations and prospects for the future.
