A modification to the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI-79)
electron density profile between altitudes of about 80 km and the peak
of the E-region is proposed for compatibility with equatorial HF
absorption measurements for Thumba, India. This is tested against
independent absorption data for Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Ibadan, Nigeria.
