The energy spectrum of the Magsat 9/80 model is investigated via comparison with the energy spectrum for a radial dipole. It is shown that different regions of the spectrum correspond to different sources. For the region with n = 2-8, the variation source with a characteristic time of about 600 years corresponds in depth to the middle of the liquid-core layer (rho = 0.37). For the region with n = 8-13, the variation source with a characteristic time of about 60 years corresponds to sources close to the core-mantle boundary.
