The Magellanic Clouds were used to test the theoretical prediction that mass loss depends on the metallicity, as well as the luminosity of the star. Analysis of low dispersion spectra confirms predictions of line driven wind theory but the actual mass loss rates derived from these spectra are larger than predicted by the line driven wind theory. Observations of Magellanic Cloud stars with IUE in the high resolution mode are encouraging.
