Variables: Visual Magnitudes, Variables: Methods Of Observation

Although visual observers of variable stars cannot attain the precision of photoelectric photometry, careful and consistent estimates obtained over a long time-interval can produce useful results, especially when combined with photoelectric data. The four case studies described in this paper indicate the special potential of amateur-professional variable star collaboration.
