In this paper it is shown that in the spectrum of the elliptical galaxy with inner dust ring NGC 5898 the emission lines are inclined in the direction opposite to that of the absorption lines. Since the projected major axes of the stellar and gaseous component are coincident, the most likely interpretation of the phenomenon is that the angular momenta of the two components are antiparallel. This implies that the dust ring is a second event in the history of NGC 5898 and reinforces the idea that the dust lanes in ellipticals are generally the result of an acquisition.
