An analytical solution of the general plasma wave dispersion equation is derived for parameters close to those for which the numerical or analytical solution of this equation is known. The present theory combines the two approaches which are classically used in the analysis of wave propagation in magnetospheric and astrophysical conditions. Results are presented for parallel whistler-mode waves in the anisotropic plasma of the earth's magnetosphere.
