I will describe the selection and presentation of topics in a cosmology course for non-scientists whose main goal is teaching students how to think critically about and integrate new scientific knowledge into their personal worldviews. I will also describe a new textbook, ``The Big Bang Happened Here: An Introduction to Cosmology," which arose directly from teaching such a course. Both the course and the book feature exercises which help students connect with key concepts in cosmology in a personal, non-abstract manner.
