We present spatially resolved optical spectropolarimetry of the galaxy NGC 1068, at 12 points within and to either side of the observed ionization cone. Such observations provide information on the view, from each point, of the active galactic nucleus. The results show that points outside the ionization cone have little or no broad Hα and Hβ in their polarized flux spectra, showing that their view of the nuclear broad-line region is obscured, presumably by the nuclear torus. Using a recently developed scattering model, we calculate the intrinsic broad Hα luminosity as (1.7+/-0.3)x10^43 erg s^-1. The model assumes that for the nuclear region electron scattering dominates, but at other points within the cone both electron and dust scatterers are required. The [OIII] lambda5007 narrow emission lines, at all aperture positions, show structure in the degree of polarization across the line, with a position angle that approaches the value of the continuum with increasing distance from the nucleus.
