Scientific paper
We propose a 80 ks observation of a sizeable sample of rather peculiar AGNs detected in the 2-10 keV band by the HELLAS2XMM survey in the PKS0537-28 field, for which extensive multi-wavelength follow-up observations (radio, IR, optical and Chandra) have already been obtained. This sample comprises red quasars, candidate Type 2 quasars, optically blue, X-ray absorbed quasars, extremely red objects, and sources characterized by large X-ray-to-optical flux ratios. The primary goal of this proposal is to obtain good quality X-ray spectra of a relevant number of sources in order to measure key parameters such as X-ray column density and iron K_alpha emission lines, and to investigate the link between the X-ray and optical properties.
