We request to re-observe with XMM-Newton the peculiar SN~1998bw, thought to be an example of ``hypernova" due to its exceptional optical and radio properties, and associated with GRB980425. An XMM-Newton observation accomplished in March 2002 allowed us to construct an X-ray light curve from one day to 4 years after the GRB/SN explosion by combining those data with BeppoSAX data at early epochs. The interpretation of the temporal trend is not univocal. The utmost relevance of SN~1998bw to the problem of GRB progenitors and to the identification of the GRB powering mechanism makes re-observing extremely important and urgent.
