Pulsar Magnetospheres: Radiation Mechanisms, Pulsars: Neutron Stars

Scientific paper

Properties of some special processes in strong magnetic fields are briefly introduced, and the theories on the magnetosphere and the radiation mechanism of radio pulsars are reviewed. As to the magnetospheric models, the authors start with the GJ (Goldreich and Julian, 1969) model, and then deal with the three important problems: the oblique rotator, the site and the mechanism of particle acceleration, and the current closure problem. As to the radiation mechanism, they focus on the "coherent problem", and point out the advantages of the Inverse Compton Scattering model.
