SETI observations are planned in India using the Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope (GMRT), consisting of 30 antennas of 45 m diameter each. GMRT will become the world's biggest radio telescope operating in the frequency range of 30 1500 MHz when completed by 1994. Because of the large steerability of the antennas GMRT will be a particularly valuable facility for SETI observations of the southern sky which is not covered by the Arecibo Radio Telescope.
