Scientific paper

The feasibility of the localization of landers on the surface of Mars is examined in the context of future Martian missions and, particularly, the Russian Mars 94 project. The discussion covers the main objectives and characteristics of the Mars 94 mission, geometrical configurations and the visibilities, the localization software, and the initial data to be processed. The possibility of localization for operational purposes with an accuracy better than 10 km is demonstrated.
