Scientific paper

Feasibility study of cost-effective interplanetary transportation through reusable heavy-lift launch vehicles and Mars transfer vehicles is presented. Particular attention is given to the earth and Mars atmospheres as a major source of launch and transfer vehicle propellant for interplanetary travel. It is concluded that reusable airbreathing heavy-lift launch vehicles, based on emerging aerospace plane technologies, may eventually be feasible for boosting all elements of Mars expeditions into earth orbit.
