On February 23, we detected 22 GHz water maser emission from the starburst galaxy NGC3620, using the 70-m Tidbinbilla telescope with a resolution of 50 arcsec. Only interferometric measurements will allow us to discriminate between emission from a circumnuclear torus and a prominent star forming region offset from the main nucleus. In addition, interferometric multi-frequency continuum observations are necessary to image, for the first time, the radio compact sources present in the starburst region and, possibly, to unveal an optically-obscured nucleus of the galaxy. We propose to measure the maser with the ATCA in its 6km configuration in order to pinpoint its location with respect to other centers of activity in NGC3620.
