Knowledge of the thermal structure of Saturn is surveyed. At midlatitudes, the radiative-convective boundary is located around 700 mbar. At the top of the convective zone, the temperature lapse rate indicates incomplete equilibration of ortho and para H2. Seasonal radiative models give a good representation of the stratospheric part of the temperature profiles and of the large-scale hemispheric asymmetry observed at tropopause levels at the Voyager encounter. Small-scale meridional gradients imply a decrease of the zonal winds with height above the 300 mbar level. Observational prospects with the Cassini mission are discussed.
