We present a brief overview of the present knowledge of the intrinsic variability of stars in binary/multiple systems and clusters of different age. Using examples taken from the literature, we discuss which stellar parameters of a binary component or cluster member can be constrained and then used in better modelling and understanding of its variability and evolution.
