Saturn Satellites: Astrometry, Saturn Satellites: Ccd Observations

Scientific paper

The authors have measured 100 images of the first satellites of Saturn from observations made with a CCD camera on the 62-cm telescope at Bordeaux Observatory in September 1992. They have compared the astrometric positions coming from these observations with the theoretical positions given by three theories. The authors show that some problems occur with Mimas and Iapetus. For the other satellites, the accuracy of the intersatellites distances is about 0.06 - 0.08″ This analysis shows that the CCD methods give satellite positions which are better or as good as those from recent photographic observations.
