Mrk463 is one of the rare candidates for harboring a double AGN, apparent from optical spectroscopy. The exact classification of the second nucleus, at the borderline between LINER and Seyfert, remains ambiguous, though. X-rays are a powerful tool to determine the nature of the second nucleus (LINER or Seyfert). In this proposal, we discuss why its multi-wavelength properties make Mrk463 an important target to address some key questions related to Seyfert unification, the possible evolution of ultraluminous IR mergers into quasars, and the study of binary AGN. In order to analyze the AGN and starburst component(s) in detail, we propose a 50 ks ACIS-S observation of Mrk463. Given the separation of the two nuclei of 4.1" the high spatial resolution Chandra is essential to reach our goals.
