We propose to observe the ultracompact, 50-min X-ray dipper 4U 1916-05. The class of X-ray dippers have shown a number of X-ray emission and absorption features that can constrain the nature of the emission regions. Our analysis of the ASCA spectrum of 4U 1916-05 shows a soft excess, possibly attributable to Ne and Mg line emission. Chandra/HETGS spectroscopy of 4U 1916-05 will resolve these line features and allow us to probe the accretion disk structure, including temperature, density, and geometry, as well as constrain the composition of the donor.
