NGC 6357 is a prominent H II region complex and galactic ring nebula in the Galactic Plane. It is possibly associated with the massive star-forming complex NGC 6334; both are in the Sagittarius Arm and are at the same distance, separated by about 1.5 degrees on the sky. Two 40-ksec Chandra observations of NGC 6334 were obtained in Aug-Sept 2002. We request two 40-ksec Chandra observations of NGC 6357 to cover its main H II regions and known concentrations of X-ray emission. These observations will be directly comparable to the NGC 6334 data; the exposures are long enough to detect diffuse emission as well as the OB stars and hundreds of pre-main-sequence point source components.
