The purpose of the study was to examine secondary students' understanding of the Solar System following a course of instruction and to identify misunderstandings and misconceptions in Solar System Astronomy. Categories of misconceptions were identified which are associated with gravity and the Sun's source of energy. Recommendations are made to improve the teaching of Solar System Astronomy.
