A questionnaire relating to astronomical instruments was sent to 3315 senior high schools and 215 planetariums in Japan, and 907 and 85 answers, respectively were received. As expected, many senior high schools have, at least, one small telescope, but only a small number of schools and planetariums have teachers and staff who studied astronomy at university level. The present status on the basis of astronomical instruments at the senior high schools and the planetariums in Japan is at a high level, but the software and teaching staff should be developed.
