The effect of galactic perturbations on long-period cometary orbits is re-examined using a more realistic galactic model. Numerical and analytical calculations confirm the general result of an earlier paper which demonstrated that the Galaxy can perturb comets into and out of the Oort cloud. New equations are developed to describe the perturbed orbits.
