Star counts from Palomar Sky Survey plates confirm that the high latitude molecular clouds are nearby objects. The results set distances in the 100-175 pc range to three of the clouds, and set upper limits of 125-275 pc for the distances to five other objects, in agreement with previous results based on the velocity dispersion and scale height of the ensemble of clouds. Some of the IRAS cirrus features are located in the solar neighborhood, and cloud 20, containing a pair of T-Tauri stars, may be the nearest star forming region to the sun, being possibly as close as 75 pc. The extinction averaged over the area bounded by the lowest CO contour is found to be very low, with Av in the 0.3-0.9 m range.
