High resolution and signal-to-noise ground based observations of Ca II interstellar absorption lines towards nearby stars are presented as well as a synthetic kinematic analysis of the absorbing medium which has been based on all the measured Doppler-shifts. Four coherent motions of matter are detected. Three of these clouds approach the sun within 5 pc (within 20 pc for the fourth). Although, in addition, there are a few other clouds at distances of about 40 pc or more, the four local components are responsible for all the absorption features observed within this distance range. The particular situation of the sun in a (relatively) dense and now clumpy region of size 5 to 20 pc is confirmed. In comparison, the 20 to 100-150 pc volume seems to be less populated. The calculated velocities are compared with the previous result of Crutcher (1982) and with the solar system interstellar wind velocity.
