The proposed use of an astrometric satellite for parallax determination is considered. The accuracies of several ground-based programs of parallax determination are evaluated and compared. It is concluded that while an astrometric satellite is fully justified by virtue of the various problems that cannot be treated in any other way, a comparatively modest-scale ground-based undertaking is even more justified.
