The distribution function of charged particles accelerated by resonant Alfven waves obeys a diffusion equation in momentum space. The present paper looks for self-similar solutions, depending on time and momentum, for this diffusion equation for different boundary or injection conditions. It is found that such solutions exist either when acceleration is the only process experienced by the particles or when synchrotron or ionization losses cannot be neglected. Some self-similar solutions are sought for cases of astrophysical plasmas, including those associated with bremsstrahlung sources, synchrotron sources, and inverse Compton sources.
