A description is presented of the observed motions of fine structures and homogeneous gas masses in the visible layers of the sun and other stars. Attention is given to the historical results of solar observations, theoretical explanations regarding the differential rotation, the search for solar flow systems, approaches used for the determination of the rotational velocities of stars, studies conducted by Gray (1977), and the possibility to obtain the pictures of large stars with the aid of speckle interferometry.
