Linear Landau damping of oblique Alfven waves has been proven to be a significant mechanism to account for the radial variations of power spectra of magnetic-field fluctuations in the solar wind. Quasi-linear theory is used to compute the power that, through this mechanism, goes into particle heating and the relevance of this in relation to temperature variations observed in the solar wind is discussed.
