Lunar Occultations: Methods Of Reduction

Scientific paper

For the reduction of occultation observations, the International Lunar Occultation Centre (ILOC) assigns different weights for photoelectric and visual observations, 1 and 0.25 respectively. When analysing world-wide observations before 1971, Leif V. Morrison discussed the value of visual observations versus photoelectric ones for the analysis of the Moon's theory and came to the conclusion photoelectric observations have a weight only slightly higher than visual ones. He expected the weight difference would increase in the future. The present analysis, based on comparison between reduction of videographic and visual observations between 1977 and 1988 tend to show that the situation has not improved since the seventies.
