An excitation mechanism is proposed for the recently discovered very slow wavelike structure in the Jovian atmosphere, which is regarded as normal mode gravity-wave oscillations of this atmosphere. Such oscillations are excited through resonance couplings with prograde inertial oscillations of the convective interior having negative energies. The amplitude of a low-frequency oscillation of the Jovian atmosphere can be large only in the equatorial region.
