Our collaboration has been developing position sensitive CdZnTe detectors for hard x-ray astrophysics research in the 10-350 keV range. Our latest advance is a prototype detector that consists of a three dimensional position sensitive CdZnTe detector, 25 mm x 25 mm x 2 mm, with 1 mm pitch crossed strip electrodes, an interleaved steering electrode, and an Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) for individual electrode readout. The first balloon flight test of this detector is scheduled for Spring 2000. We will present laboratory results from the 25 mm x 25 mm detector, updates and refinements to previous balloon flight data, and preliminary spectra from the new balloon flight. This research is funded by the NASA Office of Space Science and the NASA Graduate Student Researchers Program.
