V826 Tau is a weak-line T Tauri star of spectral type K7V and also a double-lined spectroscopic binary. From 43 photoelectric radial velocity observations, accurate orbital elements have been derived. The orbit is circular, with a period of 3.8878 days, and the mass-ratio is 1.02. The mean cross-correlation profile gives v sin i = 4.2 + or - 0.7 km/s for both stars. Placing the stars in a theoretical HR-diagram suggests masses of about 0.9 solar masses for each component. The mass-functions yield an estimated orbital inclination of 13 deg, excluding that eclipses take place. The period is accurate enough to derive phases for earlier photometric observations by Rydgren and Vrba (1983) and Bouvier et al. (1988). Sine-curves are fitted to the light-curves, showing that the minima are shifting with time relative to the binary orbit, either because spots form and fade, or because spot-regions migrate around the stars. The observed circular orbit for V826 Tau could be evidence for orbital circularization of close binaries during the premain sequence evolution.
