Observations of the shock breakout emission from Core Collapse Supernovae (CC SNe) can provide a key measure of the progenitor star radius and the structure and composition of its outer layers, very difficult to decipher otherwise. Thus, observations of shock breakouts will dramatically extend our ability to constrain the final stages of massive stars evolution. By cross correlating CC SN discoveries from the Palomar Transient Factory (PTF) with GALEX UV observations we have already detected several PTF CC SNe in the UV shortly after explosion. Here, we request Gemini-N rapid, early-time ToO spectroscopy of two PTF/GALEX SNe, discovered when no other telescope could react. These data will measure crucial physical parameters of the explosion (e.g., temperature, expansion velocity, dust extinction) that cannot be determined at later time, and will allow rapid progress in our understanding of the final stages of massive star evolution via this synergistic Gemini/PTF/GALEX program.
