Radar observations of the 1985 return of the Giacobinid meteor shower are described. The shower was of approximately 3 hrs duration, rising steeply to a maximum at 09h35mUT on October 8, 1985. The meteor shower thus showed the same short period characteristics as the intense showers of 1933 and 1946. Peak meteor echo rates of 75 occurred in the ten-minute interval 09h30m - 09h40mUT. The corresponding shower zenithal rate at maximum after removal of background activity was 484 echoes per hour. The longitude of the descending node of the shower at maximum was 194°.55 (equinox 1950). The plane of the central part of the 1985 shower was displaced by 0°.15 in longitude with respect to the orbital plane of the comet.
