Rappaport et al. (2009) designed a procedure to analyze RSS ring optical
depth profiles. Recently we have designed an improved method. Two common
concepts of the two approaches are that they use the nonlinear theory of
density waves and that they rely on a combination of multiple optical
depth profiles. The main differences are summarized in Table II.
