The modifications of texture, structure and composition that cometary matter may have undergone due to solar heating since the comet is on a periodic orbit are discussed. It is found that very volatile ices may have been depleted, and clathrate hydrates formed from initially amorphous mixtures. Dust has been enriched and some isotope ratios may have been slightly modified. Some criteria for the selection of the target of CNSR are discussed.
