Interplanetary Field Enhancements (IFEs) appear as smoothly varying cusp-shaped enhancements in the interplanetary magnetic field which last minutes to many hours. They were discovered almost 30 years ago in the Pioneer Venus magnetic field records and attributed to dust released by asteroids and comets because the location of some of the IFEs occurred where the comet 2201 Oljato crossed the Venus orbital plane and because the IFEs recurred at each Oljato apparition. We use Helios and STEREO data to examine the properties of IFEs such as their spatial distribution in ecliptic longitude and radial distance, their size distribution and plasma properties. We find that at 1 AU, the spatial distribution is greater at discrete longitudes. We also find that more than half of IFE events consist of cool low-beta plasma. In these events, the increase in magnetic pressure during an IFE can be compensated by a decrease in the plasma pressure, suggesting that the center of the disturbance is a "cold” region, possibly where the dust has displaced the solar wind ions. We interpret these features as regions of dusty plasma produced by meteoroid collisions.
