The electrons in galaxy cluster gas are nearly relativistic which slightly modifies the spectral signature of the S-Z effect they produce. These small modifications allow precise measurements of the S-Z spectrum in the mm band to probe a number of properties of the cluster gas in addition to those given by the classical S-Z effect. One may disentangle the electron temperature and column density without the need of X-ray measurements, and one is also sensitive to non-thermality and non-isotropy of the electron distribution function.
